# Views and sheets

> A view says what to draw. A sheet says where it goes on paper.

Floorkit makes drawings from the building model. You do not draw lines by hand. When the model changes, each drawing changes with it.

## Views

A view is a small piece of saved data. It says what to draw, and it does not hold lines.

| View | You give | You get |
| - | - | - |
| Plan | A storey and a cut height | A floor plan with walls cut at that height |
| Section | A cut line, a look side and a depth | A vertical cut through the building |
| Elevation | A point, a look direction and a crop | An outside face of the building |
| Isometric | A camera | A 3D image that you place on a sheet |

Plans, sections and elevations are vector drawings: lines, arcs, regions and text in metres. An isometric view is an image.

```typescript theme={null}
import type { SavedDrawingView } from '@opengeometry/floorkit';
export const groundPlan: SavedDrawingView = {
  id: 'ground-plan',
  name: 'Ground floor plan',
  kind: 'plan',
  storeyId: 'ground',
  cutHeightAboveStorey: 1.2,
};
```

## Sheets

A sheet is a page with a size in millimetres. A viewport puts one view on the sheet at a scale. A title block shows the sheet number and the project name.

```mermaid theme={null}
flowchart LR
  V[View: ground plan] --> P1[Viewport at 1:50 on sheet A-101]
  V --> P2[Viewport at 1:100 on sheet A-001]
```

One view can be on many sheets. Each viewport has its own frame and its own scale.

## The project

A project holds the three things together: the building model, the views and the sheets. You save and open the project as one file.

| Field | Holds |
| - | - |
| `buildingModel` | The building |
| `views` | The saved views |
| `paper.sheets` | The sheets and their viewports |

## Get the linework

[`drawProjectView`](/floorkit/api/drawings/draw-project-view) gives you the vector drawing of one view. Use it to show a plan in your own canvas or to measure a drawing.

## What Floorkit draws today

* Plans cut straight walls at the cut height. Doors, windows and stairs show with their plan symbols.
* Sections use a straight cut line. Elevations look at the building from outside.
* A plan and an elevation draw a body up to 1 km from the origin of the model. A section draws a body up to about 980 m from the origin. When Floorkit cannot draw a body, it gives an error.
* If Floorkit cannot draw a view, it gives an error with a code. It does not draw something different in its place.
